Bikes Fight Cancer has continued to grow, thanks to the support of riders and volunteers like you!
This growth is enabling Bikes Fight Cancer to provide a limited number of grants for cancer patients undergoing treatment. The goal of these grants is to assist with non-medical expenses, such as mortgage/rent payments, utilities, groceries, and transportation incurred during their treatment.
The 2024 pilot grant program will award $1,500 per grantee, with $500 provided as a Visa Gift Card. Bikes Fight Cancer will pay up to two (2) bills, with a total up to $1,000.
We are letting you know in case there is someone in your circle who is fighting cancer and could use financial help. This is a pilot program, and Bikes Fight Cancer is limiting applications to the BFC Community, with hopes to expand in future years.
In order to be eligible for financial assistance through a Bikes Fight Cancer Grant, the following must apply:
ELIGIBILITY
- The patient must be referred by a Bikes Fight Cancer rider or volunteer who participated in a past Charity Ride or has been on the PMC Team
- Patient must currently be in active treatment or someone who has completed treatment within the last 12 months
- The applicant must provide confirmation that the patient is receiving treatment – i.e. email from provider
- They have not received a Bikes Fight Cancer grant in the last 12-month period/2 times overall
- Bikes Fight Cancer has not contributed to a Go-Fund-Me or other Peer-to-peer platform related to the requestor
- Must fill out the application completely and upload required documents, or mail them to: Bikes Fight Cancer 255 Park Street, Easthampton MA 02027
INFORMATION NEEDED
- Bikes Fight Cancer rider referral name
- Patient contact and information
- Copy of letter or email from a healthcare professional who can confirm where the patient is currently receiving treatment
- Prescribing physician’s name and phone number
- Provide the bill/s they would like paid, the amount and 3rd party billing information
APPLICATION PROCESS
- BFC rider or volunteer can nominate someone (family, friend, or someone in your community) by emailing the Grants committee at grants@bikesfightcancer.org with the nominee’s contact info
- The BFC Grants team will send out a link to the Google application form to the nominee/applicant
- Applicant to fill out the Google form application and provide required information
- Must complete the application by uploading requested documents or emailing them to grants@bikesfightcancer.org
- All submissions are carefully considered and reviewed fairly by the full Bikes Fight Cancer Board
- Applications are reviewed up to 6 times a year
- If a grant is approved, the applicant will be notified and then fulfillment takes approximately 90 days

WHAT ARE THE OPTIONS FOR SUBMITTING THE REQUIRED FORMS?
Forms can be completed electronically and a link will be sent to the nominated applicant. Electronic signatures are accepted and forms can be uploaded through the online form.

IF I PAY RENT OR MORTGAGE TO A THIRD PARTY, SUCH AS A RELATIVE, CAN I
STILL APPLY?
Yes you can, however, Bikes Fight Cancer will not pay relatives directly.
It is our policy to make payments only to third parties, and not directly to grant awardees or their family members. Examples of third parties are landlords, utility providers and mortgage lenders. We would send payment to a third party on their behalf.
WHAT IS YOUR PRIVACY POLICY FOR APPLICATIONS?
We respect and uphold the privacy of each applicant. All information gathered through grant applications is kept secure and confidential.
AWARD DECISIONS
- Awards will be reviewed and granted based on greatest need, application completeness and timing of submissions
- Awards are up to the sole discretion of the Bikes Fight Cancer Board of Directors
- Decisions cannot be appealed
IF I AM APPROVED WHAT IS THE TIMELINE FOR PAYMENT?
Applications are reviewed every 60 days and you will be notified if you are approved. Once approved, payment may take up to 90 days.
